The Spruce Lake Rail Company is a new project devoted to linking together various towns and cities on the server, particularly those that are isolated and far from any fixed portals. We're looking to build overworld rail connections to them, with double rail lines (for track in each direction), stations, switches, etc.
We are based out of the small town of Spruce Lake, with our initial station located at 33789/66/-19629. We are looking for candidate destinations in the +/- quadrant currently, with a mind toward eventually branching out to the rest of the world.
If you have a candidate destination you would like us to consider, please contact Munchausen or Chemical_Paradox, or post a reply to this forum message.
We also accept donations of rails, iron, gold, and coal.
For those interested in visiting Spruce Lake, there is a nether rail currently available, accessible from the nether hub at spawn. New settlers are welcome. Directions:
Bring a mine cart with you.
From spawn:
1. When you land at spawn, head to the nether portal at 904 64 -998. This will take you directly to the nether hub. (Once you arrive there, don’t dawdle - this is built on top of a nether fortress, and there are frequent blaze and wither skeleton spawns. So unless you want to fight them, haul it!)
2. At the nether hub, head southwest to the staircase at 69 69 -91. At the top of the stairs, walk thru the nether portal without porting back to overworld. On the other side of the portal, turn left down the hall, and take the rail line at Platform 3.
3. Pass directly thru all stops along this line until you get to the switch stop at 1145 72 160. Follow the left branch towards nether route 2 from this switch. (Signage will direct you.)
4. Pass directly thru all stops along this line until you get to the switch stop at 1174 72 -127. Follow branch towards the M Line. (Again, follow the signs.)
5. Take the M Line (really long) to the end of track at Munchausen Station, at 4179 108 -2506. Note - when you arrive at the station, the cart is captured by the automated cart recycling system. You can get it back using the cart retrieval button.
6. Follow the stairs down to the nether portal at 4214 83 -2487.
7. Exit thru the wooden doors to the town proper. (Do not use the glass-sided doors opposite.)

I love the project, but the scope of it would be gargantuan if done in the Overworld ... if done in the Nether, though, I'd happily hire the Company's service to link my base to the main rail grid!

Yes, I jumped into the random warp to find this location, and just loved it at first sight. Since I wasn't near a fixed warp, I built a 5000 block nether rail, so I could have visitors. Feel free to stop by anytime. Anyway, Chemical_Paradox kinda has his heart set on an overworld build. I can't say I blame, him, I find them far more scenic than endless miles of netherrack. I think it's less about the destination than the journey. :-) (Now we just have to hope there aren't any server resets coming anytime soon...)

Construction has commenced on the rail line. For the initial run, I'm building from Spruce Lake to the PVP Madness warp, about 8000 blocks out. Once that's done, I'll decide where to go from there. Still looking for suggestions for other destinations in the +x/-z quadrant.
Donations of iron, gold, and redstone cheerfully accepted.

Construction has been completed for the Spruce Lake - PVP Madness line. The PVP Madness Depot is located at 25013 66 -19031. Enjoy.

I may or may not have spent 40 minutes riding the rail line today. 20 minutes in each direction. Those scenic views tho.

Can you guys hook up Club Ra to the grid? Sadly, so far the only way to there is by elytra :/

Can you guys hook up Club Ra to the grid? Sadly, so far the only way to there is by elytra :/ If you'll post the coordinates, I'll have a look at the feasibility. Even if it's workable, it'll take time to gather materials, as I've pretty much exhausted my iron and glowstone inventories. (Unless, by some miracle, it turns out to be a really short run.)

Well, we seem to keep missing each other. Why not just post the coord here? I don't see the point in keeping them secret, if you want me to build a rail line to them.

Yes, I meant on here, I usually don't have the time though, but now I will. Friday was roller coaster day, to finish up our study of motion

I'm sorry, the us week I'm not gonna be on much, cause of big school project. OK, I examined the situation for the coordinates you gave me - x = -3574, z = -28069. I begin to understand why you're having so few visitors. The big problem here is that the -x/-z quadrant of the world appears to be very sparsely settled. I could only find one viable fixed warp even remotely near that area (Desert Warp - x = -8008, z = -12538). This would require 4434 blocks along the x axis, and 15531 along the z axis, for something just under 20,000 blocks. That's already 2.5 times the size of the PVP Madness Warp to Spruce Lake line, which was my biggest rail project to date. As an overworld build, this just isn't feasable, and would probably require at least half an hour just to ride, and perhaps a month or two to build. Alternatively, we could try implementing this as a nether rail, again jumping off from the desert warp. This would require just under 3000 blocks, which is way more reasonable. (This is, in fact, shorter than the nether rail to Spruce Lake from the nether hub.) I haven't had a look yet at the nether area near the desert warp, but I'm hopeful we can manage something. Let me know your thoughts about this, Bling.

Of course, for people without an elytra, that's not much help, as there doesn't appear to be a way down to the ground otherwise. If I can arrange a ladder or stairway down from there, then it looks like it would only require a few hundred blocks to get there. In which case, I'm not sure a rail line is even justified - a simple walkway would probably suffice.
